Kim Salmon and Ron Peno sauntered inconspicuously to the small stage area of the front bar of the Labour in Vain and launched into the seldom seen melty, haunting, bluegrassy sounds that make them the Darling Downs.
Kim strummed melodically away on banjo and guitar whilst Ron provided the wonderful theatrics and movements that always accompany his powerful and heartfelt lyrics.
Tonight they were playing to an enthusiastic audience both young and old from Fitzroy and beyond, in a the crowded and hot front bar of the Labour in Vain, after a day which saw the mercury nudge into the low 40’s. We even got an encore of a couple of songs before the heat exhaustion got too much for them.
Any brown notes? – way too hot!
