The Paul Kidney Experience have made it back up to Sydney after a swag of Victorian supports for Mudhoney. This time they have brought their busload of musical bits to the Moshpit in Newtown supported by Rubber Necker and The Hot Ness.
The Hot Ness
The Hot Ness launched the night with some signature dirgy, grungy sounds from a twin guitar assault and thumpalong bass lines.

Check out the dirge here.
Rubber Necker
Popping up on the underground and overground post punk scene with a bit of regularity, Rubber Necker never fail to please a crowd.

Quirky – yep. Solid – yep. The four piece are a little jazz, a dash of punk, a splash of dance and a big whack of mayhem.

Have a sample of their sound here, but get along to a live show to get the full rubber necking experience.
Paul Kidney Experience
All of a sudden, the stage was full to overflowing of people and instruments. The Paul Kidney Experience was forming. Starting slowly and subtly with some soft rhythmic tribal beats, slowly building with a loose concoction of strings, guitars, harmonium, some weird wind instrument sounds, a collection of tinkling percussion bits and what starts off as heavy breathing then building into a whirling dervish of sound.

PK masters the art of guttural noises and wild gesticulations that encourage the mad cacophony of sound into a frenzy. A maelstrom taking over the whole room led by a bit of improvised shamanic chaos.

There are no breaks, no breathers, just a continuous psychedelic journey of what seems to be an extended acid trip jam session.

And then it just stopped. All that was left was a trail of disappearing feedback that slowly ebbed out of the room.

Immerse your ears into their sound here, but really, really, really get to a live show for a bit of sonic mind expansion.
Never mind the Brown Note – just pass the Brown Acid.
