Eagles of Death Metal – Enmore Theatre

After a long road, Eagles of Death Metal have finally made it back to Australia to subject us to some good ole rock evangelism. I caught their amazing show at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney, supported by local Perth based scallywags, Southern River Band.

Photos shot for Century venues.

The Southern River Band

This is a band that knows the meaning of no nonsense rock. Complete with a bare chested and spangled pant clad Cal Kramer leading the charge out front; these guys took no prisoners in their unashamedly rockin’ performance.

Working the quickly growing crowd, there were stories and banter, bringing the audience closer into the show with the band; all showing off their best rock faces as they laid into an energy filled set.

Check them out at a rockin’ venue near you for an aus flavour to a classic rock show. Have a taste of their stuff here.

Eagles of Death Metal

Arriving on stage in a blast of smoke to the blaring sound of Rocky Horror Picture Show’s Time Warp, Jesse Hughes, adorned in a red satin cape looking like a Nashville Elvis, bleats out a gushing wad of love for the crowd.

What follows is an hour and a half of infectious grit infused rock n blues tunes, crazy good banter, rock poses and steamy good times. Crowd fave I Want You so Hard (Boys Bad News) had all the phones out and waving in the air, Complexity had the Enmore bumping and grinding; there was even a cracking cover of Bowie’s Moonage Daydream.

There were off stage excursions into the front of the pit and one even had Jesse popping up at the soundboard at the back of the room to have a guitar riff-off with lead guitarist Scott Shifflet back on the stage. Not to be left out, leather clad bassist Jennie Vee and drummer Leah Bluestein round the contest off with a blistering rendition of Motorhead’s Ace of Spades, while Jesse makes his way back to the stage to end the night off with a raucous rendition of Speaking in Tongues.

Have a listen to the crazy here, but get on the bandwagon to join in the unadulterated good time, rock n roll circus that EODM bring to town – and rock your socks off.
