Even As We Speak – Marrickville Bowlo

Even As We Speak crank out the indie pop at the Marrickville Bowlo as a local warm up to their upcoming Glasgow pop fest and UK tour. Playing with them tonight are old buddies Living with Robert and up and comer Ventry music.

Ventry

Playing his first gig, Ventry has come up from Melbourne to open up the night with his solo show of indie tunes plus a couple of covers. One man, a guitar and a box of beats, he rounds off the show helped by a bit of family input.

Living With Robert

Seldom seen on stage these days, Living with Robert have dusted off the 80’s jangly rock to see their good mates off on their UK journey.

Playing as their original three piece of bass, drum and guitar; the three gents take it in turn for vocal duties and pull out all their classic tunes as if they were snap frozen in time.

For the punters of a certain age, we were instantly transported back to the heady days of smoky, dark, dingy venues (sans smoke) that littered Sydney’s inner west.

Even As We Speak

The mood in the crowd tonight was like a happy family gathering, with old and new fans coming together in a multi-generational gatho to revel in the sweet jangly pop sounds of Even As We Speak, or EAWS to their friends.

The show opened up with a sublime version of Someone from their latest release Adelphi, quickly followed up by an older fave Blue Suburban Skies that had the room bouncing on the sprung floor of the Marrickville Bowlo.

The rest of the set was scattered with oldies and newies and the crowd lapped it up. There were a couple of technical hitches, but they were quickly dispatched without a break in stride.

By the end of the night there were smiles all round, both in the crowd and on the stage; legs and dancing bones got a workout and no one broke a hip – success!
