Psyched As Forever 2026 – 10 Years Deep

What better way to spend a muggy Saturday afternoon than diving headfirst into a swirl of freaky sights and sounds? That was the exact prescription delivered by the good folk behind Psyched As, who took over The Factory Courtyard and Factory Floor for Psyched As Forever 2026 – a ten-year celebration that felt equal parts community gathering, house party, and beautifully unhinged mini-festival.

Punters drifted around the Factory courtyard and between stages, fortified by beers and tasty treats from the food truck. There was a loose, sun-drenched energy in this little corner of Marrickville that lazy afternoon . I was able to catch the early part of the arvo, with plenty to delight with sets from FRENZEE, Marilyn Maria, Special Features, Maia Toakley, and Sonic Reducer.

Things didn’t so much start as erupt, thanks to the Psyched As House Band. Less a traditional opener and more a full-blown scene-setter, the set blurred any line between stage and crowd. Musicians rotated in and out, bodies spilled off the stage and into the courtyard, and what unfolded was a chaotic, sweat-soaked groove session that felt like a house party had broken out in the middle of the venue. It was loud, loose, and just the right kind of messy – boding well for the rest of the afternoon.

After ironing out a few early technical gremlins, FRENZEE wasted no time in kicking the courtyard into gear. The trio’s sound hit with serious force – a tight, high-octane blast of rock driven by jagged, staccato vocal delivery and an angry combined guitar/bass and even angrier drums that didn’t let up. There were flashes of Rage Against the Machine-style urgency and anger, but it was delivered with a sharper punk edge that kept things raw and immediate. For an early set, it felt anything but – this was a statement.

Inside on the Factory Floor, Marilyn Maria dialled things down in tempo but cranked up the tension. Their brooding, gritty post-punk filled the darkened room with a slow-burn intensity. Frontman Angus stalked the stage with purpose, locking eyes with the crowd and pulling them into the band’s orbit. It wasn’t about explosive moments – it was about atmosphere, and there was plenty to go around.

Back out in the courtyard, Maia Toakley and band offered a shift in mood that felt perfectly timed. Where previous sets leaned into urgency, this one blended into a haze of lo-fi textures and warm, fuzzy tones. It wasn’t about pace, it was about immersion. The set cast a kind of gentle spell over the crowd, more than happy to settle in and let the songs wash over them.

Meanwhile, Special Features were busy building their own world back inside on the Factory Floor stage. Their set leaned heavily into raw, grungy soundscapes, thick with effects and layered with an undercurrent of emotional weight. There was a sense of intimacy beneath the noise, like each track was peeling back a layer, offering glimpses into something personal while still hitting with full sonic force.

Then came Sonic Reducer, who wasted precisely zero time in turning that atmosphere on its head. The Canberra outfit brought chaos in its purest form. A barrage of raw, “oi”-leaning punk delivered with reckless energy and a healthy dose of stage antics. It was loud, scrappy, and tremendously unpredictable, the kind of set that leaves you exhilarated and slightly confused.

Even in just the first half of the day, Psyched As Forever 2026 was already delivering a celebration of not just a scene, but of the weird, wonderful community that keeps it going. Pencil in the next one!
