After a few false starts earlier in the year, UK’s Slowdive has finally brought their much anticipated sonic goodness to Australian shores to delight our earholes and bend our brains. I caught them at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney supported by Newcastle’s finest, dust.
dust
dust kicked off the night with some frenetic post, present and future punk sounds to the quickly filling Enmore. Five lads with bags of energy pumped out sometimes quirky but always fully loaded tunes.

The dimly lit stage was shrouded in smoke, adding a bit of drama to the menacing basslines that drove each track along with drums and blasting guitars. If that wasn’t enough, it was all topped off with a bit of spice from some synth and A LOT of sax, slashing through the wall of guitars.

Catch them soon as they continue showing off their newest release et cetera, etc across Australian through the rest of this year. Have a taste of the release here.
Slowdive
After what felt like 30 year’s worth of anticipation, Slowdive finally walked out on stage to a jam packed, sold out Enmore Theatre.

The stage was dark and broody, with psychedelic projections flickering through the smoke, enhancing the trance inducing sonic shoegaze that rolled like waves across the crowd. A crowd made up of older and young fans that was pretty much transfixed tonight under the spell of the band for nearly two hours.

The set list jumped around, spanning older 90’s like Slomo and Slowdive to the newest releases Kisses, from upcoming album Everything is Alive. Crowd favourite Sugar for the Pill was immediately followed up by Alison and When the Sun Hits, invoking an outbreak of cheering, swaying and singing along through the room.

The night ended with an encore of the haunting Dagger and 40 days, leaving a bunch of blissed out faces to stumble back out into Enmore’s streets.
